The Gift God Sent

Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord.” – Luke 2:10-11

We made it to another Christmas, but Christmas is not about Santa Claus (no matter how much good Saint Nicholas did when he was alive), shopping or Christmas carols.  Christmas is not even about our families.

Christmas is about the gift that God sent the world.  He sent us a Saviour.  Someone who could take away our sins.  Someone who could put us in right standing with God.  Someone who loved us  enough to die for us.

God sent us the best gift of all–Jesus.  He is now at the right hand of the Father, making intercession for us.  He went to the Cross, died for our sins, put us in right standing with God and rose from the dead.  Now He is interceding for us.

If He saved us from hell and took away our sins, that would be enough.  However, Jesus also took stripes for the healing of our mortal body (that’s this one), Jesus also was cursed for us, so that we wouldn’t have to be.  He took the effects of the curse for us–poverty, failure, anxiety, worry and so forth.

I’m excited about all that, but the one that real touches me, besides the forgiveness of sins, is that Jesus took the full wrath and punishment of God for our sins on His body, so that we would never have to be judged again by God.

This Christmas, take a moment and thank God for Jesus and what Jesus did for you.  In fact, take time every day to just meditate on what Jesus did for you.

Look to Jesus, and you will be more blessed than ever.
