Washed By Your Ears
That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, – Ephesians 5:26
I made an interesting when studying this Scripture. I always thought that God washes us with the water of the word referred to the written word of God.
However, according to the Greek, word here is the transliterated rhema. Rhema means that which is or has been uttered by the living voice, thing spoken, word. It is the spoken word.
This can be the voice of the Holy Spirit speaking to our spirits, or it can be listening to the Word of God being preached.
As we listen to God’s voice, as we sit under anointed, right teaching of the Word, we become washed, which in this case means bathing, in the Word. While we are listening to God and the preaching of the Word, we are growing in God and in His wisdom. Our mind, soul and emotions are being washed and being conformed to God’s Word.
