Changes Are Coming
You should pray is because prayer changes you.
Most of the time when people go to God, they bring Him their list of demands, their list of requests, their list of needs. They take it before God as Philippians 4:6 (Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.) says.
Unfortunately many times they forget to do it with thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is what causes things and you to change.
What is thanksgiving? It is not about turkeys, cranberry sauce and gorging yourself in front of family with pumpkin pie. It is the act of giving thanks.
So many times people focus on themselves when they come to God. They focus on what they need, what God can do for them. However, it is not about what God can to for you. It is about what He has already done for you.
The focus needs to shift from you back to Jesus.
What did Jesus do for you? God punished Him for all your sins. He never committed one sin, but He became sin for you. He took all the judgement and punish for your sins, and He gave you His righteousness.
Were you good enough? Did you keep all the commandments and ordinances of the Bible? Did you do enough to earn being in right standing with God? No, no and no.
You cannot earn righteousness. You cannot be good enough. You cannot merit it.
Isaiah, under the unction of the Holy Spirit, wrote “But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away (Isaiah 64:6).”
Your righteousness, your self-efforts, are as filthy rags. They are not worth anything.
It is only when you accept Christ and what He has done for you, that you become the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus. You are now in right standing with God. He no longer sees your sin, only Jesus’ shed blood that took away all your sins–past, present and future.
Not only that but Jesus saved you from Hell, He took stripes for all your diseases and sicknesses, He took the curse of the law for you–poverty, anxiety, worry, fear, lack and so much more.
This is where your focus needs to be in prayer. It needs to be on thanking God for all that He has already done for you.
God has already charged everything to your account that pertains to life and godliness (II Peter 1:3). Everything.
If it pertains to life and godliness, such as financial prosperity, your healing, your marriage restoration, God has already given it to you.
Thank Him for whatever you need until you see it manifest, but don’t spend all your time focused on your needs. Focus on what Jesus died to give you.
Then you will find yourself changing little by little, glory to glory (II Corinthians 3:18).
