Gaze Upon Jesus
For some reason, people still think that our relationship with Christ… and changing our lives is our responsibility. We Christians believe that God wants us to earn our place in Heaven, earn our blessings.
However when we come to the Cross, God is not looking at us.
Even in the Old Testament, the sacrifices that were brought to the priest to atone for sin, the priest never looked at the person who committed the sin but to the sacrifice. Was it pure? Was it without spot? Without wrinkle?
Just like that priest, the Lord does not look at our sin. He looks to the Sacrifice, His Son. Is Jesus pure? Is He without spot? Wrinkle? Blemish?
Our forgiveness is only as good as our sacrifice, and our Sacrifice, Jesus, is perfect.
When we try to do everything right, when we try not to sin, we have our eyes on ourselves and not on Jesus…and we are essentially saying that Jesus’ sacrifice for sins was not good enough.
When we keep our eyes on Jesus, like the Israelites gazed upon the brass serpent, we will be healed in every area of our lives.
