What Are You “Amen”ing?
Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her. – Luke 1:38 (NKJV)
When we say “Amen,” we are saying so much more than the standard response to what the preacher is saying.
We are agreeing with whatever the pastor is teaching. Whatever you agree with, you are allowing in your life.
To show you the power of amen, we need to go to Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Here she was not grown yet, engaged to a good man, and yet the angel of the Lord comes to her and announces, “Look, Mary, you are going to be a Mom. I know you haven’t been with anyone, but you are pregnant…with the Son of God.”
Instead of fainting, Mary said, “Be unto me according to your word.” And it happened just as the angel said.
And when we say amen, that is exactly what we are saying too, “Be unto me according to your word.”
Think about this the next time you say “Amen”: do you really want what you are amening to come to pass in your life?
