Are You Claiming It?
Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed Him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.
The punishment for our peace was upon Him. Peace is shalom here. And shalom includes our entire well-being, not just our mental well-being.
Most of us don’t think about the fact that God punished Jesus for every sin–past, present and future–when Jesus died on that Cross. If future sins weren’t included, then we are in trouble because we had not committed one sin when Jesus died.
We instead try to punish ourselves, try to do enough to earn God’s forgiveness, when it is already ours. All we have to do is claim it.
Just food for thought: if we are only saved until our next sin, then wouldn’t we be in trouble since there are over 600 commands in the Bible and we aren’t aware of them all? Sin would still be sin whether we are aware we did it or not.
