Rescued From Abuse?
So, my brothers and sisters, you also died to the law through the body of Christ, that you might belong to another, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might bear fruit for God. – Romans 7:4
Before you accepted Christ, you were in an abusive relationship. A relationship with Mr. Law. He demanded that you be perfect and live according to his standards, and when you couldn’t, he punished you for your shortcomings.
One day, though, you realized that Jesus took all those shortcomings on the Cross. He took the wrath and punishment for your sins once and for all. Jesus came to rescue from Mr. Law’s abuse. Now you are in relationship with Jesus.
It is as we rely on Jesus, as we acknowledge His constant presence in our lives, that we bear fruit. Not because of our works but because of Him working through us to will and to do His good pleasure (Philippians 2:13). 🙂
